Arsenal Manager Arsene Wenger Congratulates Former Arsenal Player George Weah On His Emergence As Liberian President-Elect

George Weah, New President-elect of Liberia Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger has congratulated his former player George Weah, on his election as the new President of Liberia. Wenger conveyed his congratulatory message in a press statement on Thursday ahead of the game against Watford over the weekend. Weah who was a former Chelsea and Manchester City player, was also a three-time winner of the African Footballer of the Year prize. He was crowned World Footballer of the Year in 1995 and became the first African to win the title. “I would like to congratulate one of my former players, who became President of Liberia, George Weah” Wenger said “It is not often that you have a former player who becomes a president of a country and so well done Georgie and I would say just for him to keep his enthusiasm and his desire to learn and to win,” the Arsenal boss added. The retired proficient footballer turned politician who was a senator in his home country before his emergence as the successor of Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. In 2011, he also ran for the vice-president role on the losing ticket. Other footballers to enter politics include Pelé and Zico who have both served as Brazilian sports ministers
